Game Fair season concludes at Montalto

August proved to be an exceptionally busy month for everyone at Countryside Alliance Ireland, with it culminating in the Irish Game and Country Fair at Birr Castle, County Offaly.

The Countryside Alliance Ireland marquee at the fair was inundated for the two days and it was great to meet new and old members alike.

For those people who visited the CAI stand at the Irish Game Fair at Shanes Castle, you may remember we hosted members from the NI Stick Carving Club and the impressive display of sticks entered into their competition.

At Birr last weekend, one of the competition winners from Shanes Castle, Tom Kavanagh, had a superb display of his sticks in the marquee. Tom also was the deserved winner of the Irish Stickmaking Championship and the John McClelland Memorial Perpetual Trophy, one of the competitions held by the Celtic Stickmakers Club. Whilst all at CAI might like to believe the organisation is bringing Tom a bit of luck, it’s more to do with Tom’s vast ability.

Another lovely surprise for CAI was the much appreciated and kind presentation of a stick adorned with the CAI members’ badge, by Hugh Stuart. This is a lovely piece of craftsmanship and we look forward to using it for the organisation.

Reaching the end of August means there is just one more fair for our members and supporters to visit CAI. We will be exhibiting at the Ballynahinch Game and Harvest Festival at Montalto Estate on the 24th and 25th September 2016.

There will as usual be a large focus on the traditional country sports with gundog, lurcher and terrier, clay shooting and angling competitions and events. In addition, there will be lots of entertainment for families, an exciting main arena programme and a chance to see living history at its best. Coupled with delicious game dishes on offer, it should prove to be an enjoyable way to spend a couple of days.

Jenny and Ashley will be manning the CAI stand at the fair, along with Michaela from Firearms and Explosives Branch of the PSNI.
