Hardware store auctioning off stock in liquidation move

News of an online auction for stock from the Union Street business was posted on their Facebook page last night (Tuesday, June 23).

The post gave a link for the Armstrong Auctions website which stated: “For sale by auction. We have received instructions from Alison Burnside of PKF FPM Accountants Ltd liquiadtor of McKerr Home and Garden Ltd ‘in liquidation’ formerly trading from Union Street, Lurgan to sell by online, timed auction the remaining contents of stock, forklift, 40ft containers and shop shelving.”

The auction will take place at 11am on Tuesday, June 30.

McKerr’s has been in business in Lurgan since 1933, founded by the late George McKerr.

His son David joined the business in 1966.

David and Sandra married in 1969 at which time they lived above the shop which was located in High Street.

In 1989, McKerr’s moved to its current Union Street site.

Tragedy befell the family in 2007 when Sandra lost her husband David to a cycling accident.

Sandra retired from the business in 2013.
