Holstein bulls and females on offer at Moira on April 20

The catalogue for next week's Holstein NI show and sale at Moira has attracted an entry of 20 deep pedigreed bulls and 15 fresh calved heifers and young cows.

Generously sponsored by Moore Concrete, the event on Wednesday 20th April will take place at the Pedigree Sales Arena in Moira, commencing with judging at 10.30am, followed by the sale at 11.30am. Judging is the capable hands of Jim Gilliland from Carryduff.

Auctioneer Michael Taaffe said: ”This is the club’s last show and sale of the season, and it has attracted a variety of bulls to suit all requirements, including top Holstein and British Friesian bloodlines. The highest PLI in the catalogue is £468, and there 12 bulls with PLI values in excess of £380.

“The bulls on offer are bred from dams with high components – up to 5.81% butterfat and 3.90% protein.”

One of the headliners is Inch Purpose, a superb black British Friesian bull bred by Inch Genetics based at Downpatrick. He has an outstanding PLI £434, and is sired by Lakemead Pinnacle. His dam, Inch Blackish Daphne 2 EX92 3E LP70 has completed six lactations yielding over 70 tonnes of milk. During her fifth 305-day lactation she produced 10,598kgs at 5.42% butterfat and 3.47% protein.

Herds represented in the bull portion of the catalogue include: Ards, Aughnahorry, Ballycairn, Bushmills, Carrowcroft, Glasson, Mostragee, Prehen and Relough.

The bulls on offer are sons of world leading AI sires such as Bombero, Balisto, Jabir, Jacey, Cashmoney, Moonray, La Bron, Iota and Boss.

The female entry comprises of fresh calved heifer and young cows from the Ards, Carrowcroft, Cluntagh, Hilltara and Inch herds.
