The annual female production sale of the renowned Burnview and Lakeview flocks has become firmly circled as one of the not-to-be-missed events of its kind on the Suffolk calendar.

Burnview and Lakeview are long established flocks and are considered among the leading prefixs not only in Ireland and the UK but across the continent of Europe.

Both flocks are renowned for their attention to detail when it comes to their respective breeding policies and in recent years have continued to invest in some of the best family lines money can buy.

Burnview and Lakeview have a proven track record in both the show arena and sale ring and that reputation has been enhanced further in the 2016 season by winning a plethora of rosettes and prizes as well as achieving some noteworthy prices for an outstanding crop of young ram lambs and shearlings.

Next Saturday both flocks come together for another eagerly-anticipated sale of 87 females, which includes flock ewes, in-lamb gimmers as well as an eye-catching consignment of ewe lambs.

Many of the Burnview gimmers set to go under the hammer are by the highly-rated Birness Murray, recently named the 2016 UK Sire Of The Year.

Murray has proved a star performer in the Burnview flock and has bred sons that have sold for 14,000gns, 13,000gns, 11,000gns and 8,000gns, the latter two of which were first and reserve prizewinners at Stirling this year.

Most of the flock ewes on offer from Omagh breeders William and Stephanie are in-lamb to this impressive sire.

The remainder of Burnview’s offering are largely in-lamb to the 18,000gns Ballynacannon Attitude who after winning the reserve championship was purchased by the Tait camp at Stirling last year.

In 2016 Attitude was named Northern Ireland Male of the Year.

The Burnview lot is arguably the best they have offered for sale with quality and choice across the board.

This is underlined by Lots 2 and 7 in the catalogue, both gimmers bred by Murray and in-lamb to Attitude.

Lot 2 is out of a dam by Bailey’s Invincible and is a sister of a ewe sold to the Crewelands flock which bred the 13,000gns Novice Champion at Stirling in 2015.

Lot 7 is also out of a dam by Invincible and is a maternal sister to a show ewe that bred a young lamb sold at Stirling for 5, 500gns.

Like Burnview, the Lakeview flock has had another year to remember and back in May won the RUAS Championship for a record fourth consecutive year.

In recent years Lakeview has added to its impressive line-up of stock sires that includes the 36,000gns Solwaybank Major and 20,000gns Strathbogie Jackpot by purchasing the 13,000gns Rookery Rodeo and Rhaeadr Rolex, the 25, 000gns champion at Stirling in 2015.

Rolex is by the record-breaking 90, 000gns Ardlea Ardbennig.

Lakeview’s line-up is hugely impressive, none more so than Lot 13 by Strathbogie Jackpot which is out of a dam by Glenho The Genius and a grand dam by Strathisla Shadrach, a first prize ewe lamb at the Royal Highland Show which was purchased by the Bailey’s flock for 10,500gns.

This lamb was an ET sister to a Lakeview gimmer that bred the 13, 000gns Strathisla Stifler. This exceptional gimmer is in-lamb to Rolex.

Lots 14, 18 and 39, all in-lamb to Rodeo also catch the eye. Lots 14, which is out of a dam by Cairness Court, sister of ‘Queen of the Maze’ Supreme Champion in 2014, 2015 and 2016, and 18 are by
Jackpot, while 39 is by the highly-regarded Solwaybank Major.
