Lissue Holsteinherd continues to grow and improve

The elite pedigree status of the Lissue herd, owned by Lisburn-based Conor McAufield, continues to improve with the recent show ring performance of the heifer Lissue Doorman Faith confirming this trend.

Born in April 2015, she has won the maiden heifer classes at this year’s Balmoral, Tullamore and Irish National Holstein Shows. She also won at the Irish Calf Show in Kilkenny. In so doing, Faith has garnered almost universal recognition as an animal with a tremendous future ahead of her.

“We now plan to take her to Mill Street later in the autumn, followed by the RUAS Winter Fair,” confirmed Conor.

“She will be flushed over the coming weeks and then we will put her in calf to a bull that complements her pedigree.”

Faith’s dam is a former number one GTPI Seaver daughter, while her half-sister was ranked number ten GTPI heifer in Europe in March 2015.

“But the true potential of Faith can be traced back to her grand dam,” added Conor.

“The cow in question is Socrates Candy. I bought her in 2011 at the Causeway Classic sale in Belfast.

“Candy was number 6 genomic heifer in Europe while Lissue Uno Candy, Candy’s daughter, was number 10 genomic heifer in Europe.”

Conor also confirmed that Lissue MG Candy, a Mardi Gras daughter out of Uno Candy, was number 10 genomic heifer in Europe with a PLI of 511

In addition, Lissue Meridian Candy (2) was number 3 genomic milk heifer in Europe while Lissue Meridan Candy (3) was number 4 genomic milk heifer in Europe. She was sold to Blythbridge Holsteins in Scotland at the Black and white sale in Carlisle in 2013

Lissue Seaver Candy 3 is the dam of Lissue Dorman Faith. She was the number 1 genomic Seaver daughter in the world.

Conor continued: “Socrates Candy has also produced a number of sons, which are having a strong influence on the development of the Holstein breed in the UK and Ireland. These include two bulls from the family that have been sold to Genus ABS

“We currently have a number of both heifers and young bulls, which have a strong Candy pedigree influence, available for sale.”
