Magherafelt farmer fined for causing unnecessary suffering to a cow

A Co Londonderry farmer has been convicted at Magherafelt Magistrates' Court of one charge of causing unnecessary suffering to a bovine animal.

Ian Wilson, of Ballydermot Road, Castledawson, Magherafelt, pleaded guilty and was fined £300 plus a £15 offender’s levy.

This case arose from an anonymous complaint by a member of the public to the DARD. Veterinary Service Officers visited Mr Wilson’s farm and discovered an animal with a fractured leg. In the opinion of the Veterinary Officer the animal had the injury for some time. The Veterinary Officer euthanased the animal to prevent it suffering further.
