Dalradian have spent the last ten years exploring and researching how its potential might be unearthed in the most responsible, locally beneficial and thoughtful way.

Dalradian are a mineral exploration and development company that have been working in County Tyrone since late 2009. In 2017 they submitted a planning application to build an underground mine – one committed to environmentally responsible practices that will bring economic benefit, employment and training to Tyrone. They’ve recently submitted a package of Further Environmental Information (FEI), including a number of enhancements in response to feedback from stakeholders.

As a result, the project has been made better across many fronts. Environmentally, it will be 100% carbon neutral from day one and – due to simplified processing to yield a partially-refined product – there will be no cyanide or smelting used. They are also lowering their water demand by 30% – sourcing, recycling and treating water on site before releasing it – and reducing their fuel consumption by 25% by using electric vehicles and conveyors.

Working with the local community is another priority for Dalradian. The proposed mine will create 1,000 jobs during operations and invest £30 million into training for local jobs. The average salary will be £40k across a wide variety of roles – from drivers to accountants, miners to environmental technicians.

Dalradian have also committed £4 million to future funding of local community projects and will see spending of £750 million on the supply chain for the project.
