Reopening reveals new look for The Merchant

As hospitality venues open their doors to the public for the first time in over three months, social distancing measures aren’t the only change visitors will experience at Belfast’s most iconic space.

Belfast’s 5-star Merchant Hotel has completed its £750,000 investment of the Great Room Restaurant and Cocktail Bar just in time for the momentous July 3 reopening, delivering on the exciting refurbishment plans announced back in March.

The evolution of The Merchant’s Great Room Restaurant and Cocktail Bar accentuates and celebrates the original features of the Grade A listed building, whilst luxurious, elegant new furnishings have refreshed the interiors, elevating the world-famous Merchant welcome.

The Great Room has been reimagined to create a standalone restaurant identity to match the excellence and innovation of its food and beverage offering, befitting of its two AA rosettes. A dramatic centrepiece directly under the chandelier highlights the grandeur of the vaulted dome ceiling, whilst sophisticated lighting creates a warm ambience, drawing greater attention to the ornate Victorian features.

The Cocktail Bar has also benefitted from significant refurbishment, with plush furnishings and a sleek titanium granite bar top and tables amongst the new features.

Gavin Carroll, General Manager at The Merchant, said: “We’re delighted that the work has been completed in time for the reopening of the sector. This signals a new era for The Merchant, which has been welcoming guests from around the world since it opened in 2006. The launch of The Merchant was a gamechanger for Belfast City Centre and we look forward to continuing to help promote the city and welcome guests back over the coming months.”
