Ulster University bolsters research and education links with China

The Minister Counsellor for Science and Technology from the Chinese Embassy in London, Mr Sunan Jiang, has visited Ulster University where, in a UK first, he presented the China Sciences Innovation Strategy and learned more about the University's world-leading research and teaching excellence.

During the visit Mr Sunan Jiang heard about Ulster University’s research and innovation activities in everything from sustainable technologies and biomedical sciences to engineering and the creative industries.

He introduced the new China Sciences Innovation Strategy and highlighted a number of opportunities for future collaboration between China and the UK in the fields of science and innovation.

“International collaboration in higher education is key to developing cutting-edge research that addresses global challenges in healthcare, energy, economic development and agriculture to name a few,” said UU vice-chancellor, professor Paddy Nixon.

“Ulster University has wide-ranging partnerships with China through our ongoing international research collaborations, student and staff exchange programmes and The Confucius Institute, which is helping to develop academic, cultural, economic and social ties between the two countries.

“We are collaborating with a number of leading Chinese universities on research projects in computer science and big data, connected health, nanotechnology, renewable energy and biomedical sciences.

“Together we are developing research that is impacting societies and economies, both locally and globally.”
