Coronavirus: Special meeting of Belfast City Council

City councillors in Belfast will meet on Friday evening to discuss contingency plans in response to the coronavirus crisis.

Belfast City Council has also requested further information from both the Stormont executive and health officials.

Lord Mayor Danny Baker said: “Following moves from the Irish government to step up measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19, members of Belfast City Council have today agreed to seek guidance from the Northern Ireland Executive and the Public Health Agency.

“They have also agreed to meet as a special council urgently to discuss next steps regarding council staffing, civic responsibilities, services and events

“Elected representatives in Belfast City Council have also reiterated the need to follow public health guidance and to look out for those they know, family and friends who are vulnerable.”
