12 additional Covid-19 related deaths and 865 new infections in last 24 hours

The Department of Health (DoH) recorded a further 12 Covid-19 related deaths in Northern Ireland in the last 24 hours.

The DoH defines a Covid-19 related death as a death occurring in an individual within 28 days of testing positive for the virus.

Ten of the 12 deaths occurred in the last 24 hours while two did not but were reported for the first time.

It takes Northern Ireland’s total number of Covid-19 related deaths to 1,704.

Seven of the people to sadly pass away were male and five were female.

Five were aged between 60-79 and seven were 80 or older.

Nine of the deaths occurred in a hospital setting and three occurred in a residential/care home facility.

The deaths occurred in the following local council areas: Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon (two); Mid and East Antrim (one); Mid Ulster (four); Lisburn and Castlereagh (one); Newry, Mourne and Down (three) and Fermanagh and Omagh (one).

The DoH also recorded 865 (133 more than the day before) new infections in the last 24 hours.

It takes the total number of individuals to test positive in the last seven days and since the beginning of the pandemic to 5,534 and 99,216 respectively.

There are 22 more patients in hospital with Covid-19 today than there was yesterday - a total of 822 inpatients.

Two more patients have been moved into Intensive Care Units (ICU) taking the total number of Covid-19 patients in ICUs to 72.

There are currently 24 unoccupied ICU beds throughout Northern Ireland.
