Coronavirus: NI to introduce 14 day quarantine - travellers using Dublin Airport as loophole will be committing offence says Department of Health

People entering Northern Ireland from June 8 onward must self-isolate for 14 days because of the Coronavirus pandemic.

The quarantine is being introduced by the Northern Ireland Executive and will apply to anyone entering Northern Ireland from outside the Common Travel Area.

There are concerns that people arriving in Dublin Airport who then travel into Northern Ireland could flout the quarantine.

Any found to be doing this will be in direct breach of the quarantine the Department of Health told the BBC.

The 14 day quarantine stems from measures being introduced by the Home Office.

Home Secretary, Priti Patel, will confirm the details of the initiative later today in the House of Commons during which she will confirm that anyone found to be in breach of the quarantine could face of a fine of up £1,000.

The penalties for anyone breaching the quarantine in Northern Ireland have yet to be confirmed.

The BBC also report that there are discussions between authorities in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland about how to share information.
