New record for NI as 1,566 new cases are reported and 14 new deaths

There has been a huge increase in the number of coronavirus cases in Northern Ireland, the latest figures from the Department of Health at Stormont show.

There were 1,566 new cases confirmed by the Department on Tuesday.

This represents a massive increase.

At the same time last week, there were just 439 new cases confirmed by the Stormont health department, and the week before the equivalent figure was similar with 486.

Over the past seven days, there have been 5,686 positive cases compared with 4,078 the week before.

The latest figures also show that there have been 14 deaths due to the virus in Northern Ireland.

Hospitals continue to remain under pressure, with 462 coronavirus inpatients.#

Of that group of patients, 34 are in intensive care fighting for their lives and 24 are on ventillators.
