NI Covid-19 infections spike in last 24 hours - 12 additional coronavirus related deaths recorded since yesterday

Compared with the data published by the Department of Health (DoH) on Thursday December 10, there has been a 22 per cent increase in the number of individuals testing positive in a 24 hour period.

If compared with data published seven days ago (Friday December 4) it reveals a 20 per cent increase in the number of positive infections measured over seven days.

The 538 new infections detected in the last 24 hours takes the total number of individuals to test positive for Covid-19 in the last seven days to 3,091 and the total number of infection since the beginning of the pandemic to 57,257.

The DoH also reported 12 additional Covid-19 related deaths in the 24 hours to 10.00am on Friday December 11.

The total number of Covid related deaths in Northern Ireland since the beginning of the pandemic is now 1,111, according to the DoH.

The 12 most recent deaths occurred in the following local government districts (LGDs): Armagh and Newtownabbey (three); Causeway Coast and Glens (two); Mid Ulster (two); Mid and East Antrim (two); Newry, Mourne and Down (one); Ards (one) and unknown (one).

Six of the people to pass away were female and six were male.

Three of the deceased were aged between 60 and 79 and nine were aged 80 or over.
