NI moves past 1,000 lives lost milestone as 15 additional Covid-19 related deaths recorded in last 24 hours

Northern Ireland has moved beyond 1,000 Covid-19 related deaths after the Department of Health (DoH) recorded an additional 15 deaths in the last 24 hours.

Seven of the deaths occurred in the last 24 hours however the remaining eight deaths did not occur within this time frame but were rather recorded for the first time within the 24 hours to 10am on Tuesday morning.

Sadly, 12 of the individuals passed away in a residential/care home and three occurred in hospitals.

Eight of the deceased were female and five were male.

One of those to pass away was aged 40-59; one was aged 60-79 and 13 were aged 80 or over.

The 15 deaths were recorded in the following local government districts (LGD): Belfast City Council (two); Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon (one); Lisburn and Castlereagh (two); Causeway, Coast and Glens (four); Mid Ulster (two); Mid and East Antrim (one); Newry, Mourne and Down (two) and unknown (one).

It means the total number of Covid-19 related deaths recorded by the DoH in Northern Ireland now stands at 1,011.

The DoH also recorded an additional 391 new infections within the 24 hours to 10am on Tuesday - the total number of infections in Northern Ireland since the beginning of the pandemic is now 52,856.
