NI records lowest daily Covid death toll since October but new infections up 22% in 24 hours

Four Covid-19 related deaths occurred in Northern Ireland in the 24 hours to 10.00am on Wednesday.

One of those to sadly pass away was aged between 20 and 39.

Another one of the four people to pass away was aged between 60 and 79 and two were aged 80 or older.

All four deaths occurred in a hospital setting.

The deaths occurred in the following local council areas: Belfast (one); Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon (one); Causeway, Coast and Glens (one) and Newry, Mourne and Down (one).

The DoH also recorded an additional 336 new infections in the last 24 hours.

This equates to a 22 per cent increase on the number of infections reported yesterday.

In the last seven days and since the beginning of the pandemic the DoH has recorded 2,596 and 107,774 respectively.

There are 544 inpatients with Covid-19 in hospitals throughout Northern Ireland - this is down from 579 yesterday.

There are currently 148 intensive care unit (ICU) beds in Northern Ireland - 61 ICU beds occupied by patients with Covid; 63 ICU beds occupied by patients with other conditions and 24 ICU beds are unoccupied.

Hospital bed capacity across Northern Ireland is slightly up on last week's figures at 96 per cent.
