Temperature camera at Crumlin Leisure Centre

Residents of Crumlin and district are reminded that new restrictions imposed by the Northern Ireland Executive over the spread of Covid come into operation today (Monday).

These apply to Belfast City Council area, the town of Ballymena and postcode areas BT28, BT29 (Crumlin and surrounding area) and BT43.

This means that those living in one of these affected areas must not allow people they do not live with into their home, unless they’re in their support bubble or should allow no more than six people to gather in their garden, from no more than two households.

There should not be any travel outside these areas unless it is necessary.

However, it should be noted that children should still be sent to school and early learning/childcare and it is still possible to attend places of worship, get married or form a civil partnership and attend a funeral within an affected area.

Meanwhile, Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council has put in place a number of measures to support residents and businesses across the affected area.

A temperature camera and additional hand sanitising units are being installed in Crumlin Leisure Centre.

The council’s environmental health team has visited 30 businesses in the Crumlin area to provide advice and guidance in relation to social distancing and “safe operating procedures”.

Additional cleans are also scheduled to take place across the town of Crumlin.

The Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Jim Montgomery, said: “The health and safety of our residents is paramount at this time and the extra measures we are implementing across the Crumlin area will hopefully mitigate any risk of the virus spreading further.

“I would urge all residents in the areas affected to follow the guidance from the NI Executive which includes households not mixing with other households. It is important that everyone remains vigilant at this time as we all play a part in the ongoing fight against Covid-19.”
