Tributes pour in as one of NI’s oldest residents dies aged 102-years

Great sympathy has been shared online with a Co Antrim family after news of the death of one of NI’s oldest residents was confirmed.

It has emerged that Joseph (Joe) Graham, from Randalstown, died yesterday (Saturday) at home with his wife Nellie at his side.

In a post on social media, a relation yesterday (Saturday) said: “Grandad Graham 102 years old passed away peacefully at home this morning with Nellie by his side.

“Such an inspirational man and Nellie who has cared for him and kept him going all these years. “

The Grand Lodge of Ireland also paid tribute, saying: “The Grand Master and Brethren across the Orange family were today saddened to learn of the death of W. Bro. Joseph (Joe) Graham of Taylorstown Temperance LOL 701 in Staffordstown District.

“Joe was 102 years old and had recently reached the remarkable milestone of 82 years service to our Institution.

“Our condolences are extended to the entire family circle at this time.

Another tribute from Ballymena F.C. said: “We are sad this morning to learn of the passing of our oldest Sky Blue Joseph Graham.

“The 102-year-old passed away with wife Nellie by his side, having recently celebrated their 78th wedding anniversary.

“Joe, who was born 10 years before senior football existed in Ballymena, wanted a signed top for his hundredth birthday and who were we to say no,

“A life lived, an outstanding story and a remarkable couple. To Nellie and the wider family we extend our deepest sympathies and prayers at this sad time.”

Friends and neighbours of the devoted couple also paid tribute.

A post on Funeral Times says that Mr Graham ‘died peacefully at his home’.

It adds that Joseph (Joe), was ‘in his 103rd year’ and was a ‘dearly loved husband of Ellen (Nellie), loving father of David, Margaret and Brian, dear father-in-law of Marion and the late Tony and Yvonne, a devoted grandfather of 12 and great grandfather of 11’.

The funeral insertion adds that whilst the service is private, ‘everyone is most welcome to pay their respects as the funeral cortege travels along New Street on Monday at 2.00pm (approx.)’
