Ruth Pinkerton said she has always enjoyed gardening, but added:’’I have only had time to bring some semblance of order to mine since retiring last year.’’

Pictured in her beautiful garden are astrantia, loosestrife, salvia “hot lips” dahlia, geranium and further along penstemon, echium, phormium, alium. ‘‘There is a laburnum in the photo but it had finished flowering,’’ said Ruth.

She added: ‘‘I love all flowering plants and don’t really have a favourite.’’
