The world record sheep shearer, Mr Godfrey Bowen, of New Zealand, arrived in Northern Ireland by air yesterday.

Today and tomorrow he will hold courses for young farmers at Greenmount Agricultural and Horticultural College, Muckamore, and on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday [May 25-27] he will give demonstrations, thrice daily, at Balmoral Show of his now famous method of sheep-shearing.

Mr Bowen is capable of shearing more than 400 sheep in a normal working day, and he will show how it is possible, by the lightning method he has devised, to shear an animal in about 60 seconds.

Mr James T Kernohan, secretary manager of the Royal Ulster Agricultural Society, said yesterday that he believed the demonstrations by Mr Bowen would be a great attraction, not only to the farming community, but to the public in general. The sale ring building will accommodate about 2,000 spectators.
