Reported in the News Letter on October 3, 1957: Jayne Mansfield tells of her admiration for European men

Jayne Mansfield, the American film star, announced her wedding plans in Paris yesterday.

She said she would marry Niklos “Micky” Hargitay, her most frequent escort over the past year, in California on January 8. They will marry in a small church constructed in glass at Palos Verdes, a Los Angeles suburb.

Jayne divorced her first husband, Paul Mansfield, last March. They married in 1950 and have a six-year-old daughter. One of the 23-year-old star’s complaints against Mr Mansfield was that he was jealous of her Chihuahua dog.

She told reporters yesterday that her next husband, “Mr Universe” Hargitay, former member of Mae West’s chorus of musclemen, was born in Budapest.

European men, she said, ranked high in her esteem.

“They put the woman right up high on a pedestal and at the same time exercise their masculinity. This makes a woman feel really good.”

Jayne also confessed to a love of accents, particularly those she found in England.

She is in Paris to publicise her latest film, “Oh, for a man”, which had its French premiere on Tuesday night [October 1]. She goes to Frankfurt tomorrow to entertain American troops.
