Firefighters were called to a blaze at the Tayto factory, Tandragee, in the early hours of Tuesday (December 30).

The incident was reported at 1:54am with firefighters called to deal with a fire in an industrial deep fat fryer.

Extra resources to the initial attendance were requested to attend the factory.

Appliances from Portadown, Banbridge and Armagh including an aerial machine were required to deal with the incident.

The deep fat fryer contained approximately 4,500 litres of oil and crews wearing breathing apparatus used two foam jets and a hosereel jet to deal with the blaze.

The operation lasted for over three hours.

While there is no official indication on the extent of the damage ‘Times’ sources say it was largely contained to the fryer.
