IN PICTURES: Children enjoy Playful Museums Festival

Over 100 young people have taken part in the Playful Museums Festival in Ballymoney.

A sensory tent telling the story of ‘A Mermaid’s Tail’ was the highlight of the event which was aimed at children aged under 5.

Created by Tale Time Stories and facilitated by Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council’s Museum Services, the story was inspired by a yarn collected on Rathlin Island by Sam Henry in the 1940’s.

Inside the tent, there were lots of things to touch, feel, smell and hear which allowed the children to discover the story at their own pace. A range of other activities were also on offer including a ball pool, sea themed crafts, a fishing game and a reading corner.

The event also included had a quiet session for children, featuring Makaton signs and symbols.

The Playful Museums Festival will return to the Borough later this year for an event in Coleraine Town Hall featuring the Sam Henry exhibition.
