Aki’s big break

Belfast actor Aki Yunus has spent years training and perfecting his craft, and his hard work finally paid off when he got his big break in Sky One’s new comedy thriller Bounty Hunters, which premiered last week.

With childhood dreams of becoming an actor, Aki felt he wasn’t ready for stage school and instead began intensive training with Screen Acting Teacher/ Agent Peter Ferris.

He says: “When I was at Inst. (Royal Belfast Academical Institution) doing A Level drama, there was a masterclass with Peter, and we spoke afterwards about my interest.

“He invited me to the masterclasses in Belfast, which I have been doing for nearly nine years now.” Aki picked up lots of career advice along the way, and it was Peter who introduced him to a former student of his, Matt Stirling, who is now one of the leading Screen Action Performers, having fought Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson in Fast and Furious, and doubling for the lead villain in James Bond’s Spectre. With encouragement from Matt, Aki undertook ‘warrior’ training with top stunt co-ordinator Andreas Petrides. After proving himself during training, AKi was invited to join the cast of Bounty Hunters, which stars comedian Jack Whitehall. “I loved every minute of it,” Aki said. “It was hard work but it was the best time of my life.”
