The principal of a Ballymena school at the centre of another alert says that safety of pupils ‘would always come first’.
Mrs Elma Lutton, principal of Cambridge House Grammar school commented: “Following the discovery of items on the grounds of the school, the PSNI were contacted immediately.
“The school was then evacuated, as a precautionary measure, on the advice of the PSNI. The safety of pupils at the school is of extreme importance and at no time was this compromised.”
Eye witnesses say there is a big police presence in the area with sniffer dogs deployed.
There have been two other alerts in the area over the past few weeks.
In each case, a firework like device was dealt with by army technical officers.
Police have confirmed the discovery of a suspicious object.
“The road has been closed and a nearby school evacuated. Local diversions are in place and there are no further details at present,” said a spokesman.
