Anger at abortion legal challenge

The new chairman of the justice committee at Stormont, Alastair Ross, has written to the Human Rights Commission over its decision to take legal action challenging existing abortion law.

The DUP MLA said the letter expressed the committee’s concern over the “premature” action.

“To indicate that they are to take legal action before an outcome on the consultation on abortion in the case of sexual crime, and abortion in cases of lethal foetal abnormality is known, is at best premature and at worst is showing a total disregard for the legislating body in Northern Ireland,” said Mr Ross.
