Around 1,500 participants and 30 bands are expected in Londonderry on Saturday for the annual Apprentice Boys of Derry ‘shutting of the gates’ demonstration.
The parade will make its way from Waterside Railway Station along Duke Street, Craigavon Bridge, Carlisle Road, Hawkin Street to Society Street within the city walls between 11.40am and 12.30pm with a return journey between 4:15pm and 5pm.
During the afternoon, two parades take place within the city walls, with the first one around 1.15pm. That parade will proceed via Society Street, Bishop Street, the Diamond, Ferryquay Street, Wapping Lane, Kennedy Street, Harkin Street and London Street to a service in St Columb’s Cathedral.
Around 3pm, the bands and clubs will follow the reverse route from the cathedral to Bishop Street.
Although no roads are expected to be closed during the event, road users are being advised to expect delays while parades pass any given point along the route.
