Belfast and Londonderry are to have new two-digit number codes added to the existing telephone dialling codes for each area, Ofcom has confirmed.

A new dialling code – 028 96 – is to be added for Belfast, joining the existing 028 90 and 028 95 codes. In Londonderry, 028 72 will join the existing 028 71 code.

The move will ensure sufficient availability of phone numbers for the foreseeable future, said Ofcom. Existing numbers will not be affected.
