Celebrating a lifetime of dedication to dairy sector

There are few as deserving of the Lifetime Achievement award as Dr David Dobbin CBE, and last Thursday evening, the former chief executive of Dale Farm was presented with this noteworthy award at a glittering ceremony in Belfast.

Dr Dobbin has extensive international experience in the food and drink and packaging sectors, and held the top post at Dale Farm until he retired in August. He holds a first class honours degree from Queen’s University in Mechanical Engineering, and throughout his career, has held top management posts in packaging and food processing.

Dr Dobbin joined Rothmans in Carrickfergus as an engineer after leaving university. His first full board role was in C&C as operations director for Northern Ireland, and he had management roles at listed companies Dalgety and Boxmore International before arriving at United / Dale Farm.

He is still actively involved in the agri-food sector, and is the chairman of the Northern Ireland Food & Drink Association, chairman of Dairy UK and a member of the Northern Ireland Food Strategy Board.

A passionate rugby enthusiast, Dr Dobbin is chairman of the Ulster Rugby Management Committee and has previously held a number of senior public, private and voluntary sector appointments. In addition to receiving the CBE for his service to the agrifood and packaging industries, Dr Dobbin has received a number of awards including the Institute of Directors Northern Ireland Large Company Director of the Year.
