CityBeat radio has been sold to the Q Radio network.

Q Radio operates stations across Northern Ireland including in Londonderry, Coleraine, Ballymena, mid-Ulster, Newry and Mourne and Omagh/Enniskillen.

Executive chairman Dominic Fitzpatrick said: “This acquisition is a significant step for the Q Group in that CityBeat has a proven track record throughout Greater Belfast and will complement our existing presence throughout Northern Ireland.

“As a local company we are committed to further investment throughout the group and look forward to continuing to serve both listeners and advertisers of Citybeat 96.7/102.5FM in the future.”

The Belfast-based station had been owned by CN Media Group, which is based in Carlisle.

It is not yet known whether the Belfast station which first started broadcasting in 1996, will adopt the Q branding. Winner of a number of broadcasting awards it was the station where Stephen Nolan began his career.
