Gas supply company Firmus Energy has become the latest energy supplier in the province to reduce tariffs after it announced a 6.38 per cent cut for customers in the greater Belfast area.
However, the cut will not apply to the firm’s customers in the Ten Towns area it also supplies outside the capital.
The move comes in reponse to the recent cut by SSE Airtricity which competes with it in the greater Belfast area but not in the other.
Stating that the firm’s aim was always to keep our natural gas prices as low and as stable as possible for our customers,” Firmus MD Michael Scott, said the business had “consistently offered the lowest tariff prices for domestic customers and we are delighted that this will continue.”
In relation to the Ten Towns licence area he said: “Our current regulated tariffs, although not changing, will remain over three per cent lower for domestic consumers compared to the average of the ‘Big Six’ companies in Great Britain after their recently announced reductions have been put in place.”
Utility Regulator CEO Jenny Pyper, said the reduction for Belfast customers was “further good news for consumers and demonstrates the responsiveness of the market”.
