A new Applegreen petrol station and service area - the first motorway services in Northern Ireland - is expected to open today (Thursday) on the M2.

The development near Sandyknowes has created dozens of new jobs, including management roles, supervisory jobs and sales positions.

Applegreen recently advertised for staff for the new retail outlet, located on the northbound carriageway between Glengormley and Templepatrick, including for positions within a LavAzza coffee shop, Bakewell cafe and Burger King, Subway and Chopstix food outlets.

The new service area is also expected to include a Greggs bakery - the company’s first franchise in Northern Ireland.

While Greggs signage has been erected on the front of the building, a spokesman for the bakery would only say: “A move into Northern Ireland is something that we are currently exploring.”

Greggs, famed for its cheese and onion pasties and steak bakes, has more than 1,600 shops across Great Britain.
