Belfast’s new-look HMV store will be relaunched this Saturday after a £1 million refurbishment, owners Hilco Capital confirmed yesterday.

A ‘mini festival’ has been planned for the store at Donegall Arcade in Belfast, the largest entertainment store in Ireland.

The revamp includes a custom designed performance area, “The Loft” a brand new addition which will act as a hub for all in-store gigs and signings, with a permanent stage where regular live performances by local and international music artists will take place.

To celebrate the re-launch, leading music acts including Belfast native Brian Kennedy, Sal Vitro, Seo Linn, Derek Ryan and Belfast band Scorpion Jack, will perform live in-store throughout the day.

“It’s an exciting time for HMV Belfast,” said Larry Howard, the managing director for Hilco Ireland.

“HMV has been a part of the Belfast shopping landscape for many years, and our major investment in the store reflects our continued commitment to the city.”

“The newly revamped store looks amazing, and will offer our customers a true entertainment experience,” he added.

Paul McGowan, chairman of the HMV Group and a native of Belfast said : “It is great to be able to make this kind of investment in Belfast and to bring the new HMV experience to the city centre.

“We look forward to welcoming as many Irish and International acts to the store as possible now that it has a dedicated performance area, just like our stores in London, Glasgow and Toronto.”
