A popular north coast hotel has today announced plans to increase in size and create an additional 30 jobs, after securing a new loan from Barclays.
The Bayview Hotel in Portballintrae has unveiled ambitious expansion plans, adding an additional 20 standard, superior and self-catering rooms to its offering by summer 2019 and bringing the total rooms available at the Bayview to 45.
The hotel will also create 30 new jobs - currently it employs 42 people.
Perched overlooking the Portballintrae Harbour, the Bayview Hotel has been a fixture of life at the coast since the early 1900s.
It benefits from one of Northern Ireland’s most stunning views of the Atlantic and is within close distance to some of the province’s most popular sandy beaches and attractions like the Giant’s Causeway, Dunluce Castle and Bushmills Distillery.
According to the hotel’s owner, a recent boom in the area’s tourism has played a large part in the decision to expand the hotel.
Trevor Kane, Managing Director, Bayview Hotel, said: “It’s no secret that the popularity of this area has grown in recent years. The current occupancy rate of the Bayview maintains a steady 83 per cent – well above Northern Ireland’s average - and at peak holiday season, hotel rooms on the North Coast are in notoriously short supply.
“Television shows like Game of Thrones, as well as a busy sports calendar, have contributed to this, but we have also been lucky to benefit from repeat business from excellent customers who keep coming back to us time and time again. This firmly established demand has given us the opportunity to invest and extend."
