The IFA has responded to reports that Windsor Park could be renamed if a suitable sponsor financially backed the move.

Many top clubs have already rebranded their grounds in lucrative deals, including Ulster Rugby’s ground at Ravenhill being renamed the Kingspan Stadium.

Among those calling for the retention of the Windsor Park name in any proposed rebranding is former Linfield player and manager David Jeffrey.

Commenting on the speculation, the IFA said it is focused “on delivering a world-class football venue for Northern Ireland following the current developments under way at the national football stadium at Windsor Park”.

The IFA spokesman added: “As with all other associations and clubs across the globe, the IFA is, of course, interested in finding an appropriate naming rights partner for the stadium.

“However, this search is at an embryonic stage to allow the development programme to be successfully concluded. All revenue from the use of the stadium will be reinvested in the game in Northern Ireland.”
