Car in river could be linked to 1991 mystery

A car found in the River Bann is potentially linked to a three-decade-old missing person case, police have said.

The Ford Orion, which was discovered by a local Community Search and Rescue team on Saturday, could be linked to James Patterson, who went missing in 1991.

It was found in the River Bann at the New Ferry Road in Bellaghy.

Police said a recovery operation was planned on Sunday to recover the vehicle.

Once it is removed it will be subject to forensic examination, police said.
