Council workers uncovered the body of a man in a Co Armagh park on Friday, whose death is being treated as suspicious.

It is thought that the dead man was in his 20s, and that his body was uncovered towards the Avenue Road end of Lurgan Park.

The PSNI said during the afternoon that they were working to establish how he died, and attempting to identify the man.

However, at time of writing on Friday night no name had been released.

SDLP councillor Joe Nelson said that, while there had been a rumour circulating in the town the dead man was a foreign national, police told him that he was not.

He added that the discovery was made close to a council facility at the park.

DUP councillor Carla Lockhart said the park would be closed until further notice, adding: “I also want to commend our Park staff in dealing with this situation and our thoughts are with them having to deal with such a tragedy.”
