Controlled explosion in east Londonderry

A controlled explosion has been carried out in Londonderry.

It happened at Brigade Road in the Waterside, following the dicovery of a suspicious object in the area.

It was closed between the Rossdowney Road roundabout and McGarvey Court.

The PSNI said earlier in the afternoon: “A number of houses have been evacuated and the Lincoln Court Community Centre has been made available for any residents that need shelter.”

By early evening, they had said: “The security alert at Brigade Road, Derry/Londonderry has now ended. Army technical officers carried out a controlled explosion and have declared that the object was nothing untoward.

“All roads have re-opened.”
