A renewed appeal has been made to trace a 53-year-old on-the-run murderer, after he is believed to visited a Belfast hospital.

Samuel McKinley, who has been unlawfully at large since December 22, 2014, is thought to have been at the Mater Hospital on Wednesday, before he left at around 5pm, discarding his walking aid.

Police said he may have trouble walking, and so might have gotten into a nearby vehicle.

McKinley stabbed a friend to death in 1996 in southern England.

His two sons – Sam McKinley and Jon McKinley – were also jailed for killing a man last year.

They had attacked and robbed a newsagent, also in southern England.

Among Samuel McKinley’s distinguishing tattoos is one of a gun on his right leg.
