Appeal over suspicious death of man in his forties

Police are treating the discovery of a man’s body in east Belfast as “suspicious”.

The PSNI said they are investigating the suspicious death of the man, who is in his forties, and whose body was found in a property in Chobham Street at around 9.40pm on Christmas Eve.

The man has not yet been identified and police are appealing for information about his death.

East Belfast MLA Robin Newton, a DUP member of the Policing Board, expressed his concerns.

“This is another particularly sad incident to have occurred in the east of the city and all the more so to have happened at Christmas time,” he said. “It is absolutely necessary for the police to clarify the circumstances of this gentleman’s death as early as possible. There will be concerns within the community until the circumstances around the man’s death is made known.”

He appealed for anyone who knew anything about the man’s death to contact the police.
