A sum of money has been stolen from an 84-year-old man during a distraction burglary at his north Belfast home.
Appealing for information about the incident, Detective Sergeant Keith Wilson said a man called at the pensioners Sydney Street West just after 10.30am yesterday (Saturday).
The man gained access to his home after telling the resident he had been sent to do some work in the rear garden.
“The householder accompanied this man to the garden where he appeared to check the drains,” said Det Serg Wilson.
“Once back inside the house, the man suddenly ran off. The resident, finding this odd, then checked his property and discovered a sum of money had been stolen.
“At this time we believe that a second person had entered the home and rifled through the downstairs while the householder was distracted by the first male.”
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Musgrave Reactive and Organised Crime on 101.
