Two arrests have been made over a five-figure drugs seizure.

Detectives from Organised Crime Branch arrested the men on Friday in the Millisle area.

It followed a planned search of property, during which an estimated £60,000 of suspected cannabis was uncovered.

The arrests followed news on Friday that roughly £400,000-worth of cannabis plants had been seized at a workshop in the area of the same Co Down seaside village – however, it is understood that the two seizures are not connected.

One of the men who was arrested over the £60,000 find was later charged with possession of class B controlled drugs, and possession of class B controlled drugs with intent to supply.

The 54-year-old is due to appear at Ards Magistrates’ Court today.

The second man arrested, aged 39, was released on bail pending further inquiries.

Detective Inspector Alan Pyper said: “There can be no place for illegal drugs in our communities and this seizure is an indication of our commitment to removing drugs from circulation.

“Through seizures of this nature, we are protecting the community from the harm drugs can cause.

“The misery drugs cause to communities, to families and to those who get involved in drugs cannot be measured.

“We will continue to disrupt and arrest those involved in the sale and supply of drugs in an effort to bring these individuals before the courts.”
