A man was stabbed and had a knife held to his throat in east Belfast on Thursday morning.
It happened at about 2am in the Imperial Street area, near Ravenhill Avenue.
Police received a report that a man aged in his 40s had been out with his dog when approached by a male in a black hooded top.
The PSNI said: “The male reportedly stabbed the man in his back and then held the knife to his throat. A scuffle took place and the male made off on foot.
“The knife believed to have been used in the attack has been seized for forensic examination.”
The victim’s injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Alliance councillor Maire Hendron said “the person responsible is obviously a very dangerous individual,” and needed to be caught.
