Elderly woman targeted in east Belfast distraction burglary

Police have appealed for information after an elderly woman was targeted in a distraction burglary in east Belfast on Wednesday.

The incident took place at a property in the Sandown Road area of the city shortly before 2pm.

The resident was confronted by a man in her garden who claimed to be from the electric board and who said he was going to install pipes.

He distracted the woman but she managed to go inside the house where she met two other males coming down the stairs carrying a number of items.

One of the men involved was described as being in his mid-20s, around 5ft 10in, of slim build with short brown hair and clean shaven.

Detectives have appealed for anyone who noticed any suspicious activity to contact them at Musgrave police station on the non-emergency number 101.
