A man posing as a member of “the Electricity Board” distracted an elderly woman while a thief raided her house, police have said.

The PSNI are calling on anyone with information to contact them following the incident, which took place in Carrowdore – a village at the upper end of the Ards peninsula – at around 11.30am on Saturday.

A man in his 20s – roughly 6ft tall, slim and with dark hair – called at the house in the Mountstewart Road area.

The PSNI said: “He convinced the elderly female occupant to come into the rear garden whilst he explained proposed work to be carried out.

Upon her return to the house, around thirty minutes later, the lady discovered a quantity of jewellery missing from the house.”

The man was wearing blue jeans, a white t-shirt, and green and yellow gloves.
