The funerals have taken place of the two young men who died in a Co Londonderry traffic collision.

Aaron McDonald, 19, and his cousin Michael McDonald, 21, were killed in the accident on the Victoria Road between Newbuildings and Magheramason on Wednesday morning.

They were from Donemana, near Strabane. Aaron’s funeral was held at St James’ Parish Church in Donemana on Saturday and Michael’s was held in the same church yesterday (Friday).

A statement issued through the PSNI press office requested that media did not attend either funeral service.

Church of Ireland minister at St James’, Rev Judi McGaffin, said around 400 people, the majority of them young people, had attended Aaron’s funeral. She said it “is very, very difficult for the families and extremely difficult for a very small and a very tight-knit community” to face two funerals.
