A suspected gun was put to the head of a man in Belfast on Friday morning.

It happened as a man was parking his car close to the Benburb Street-Broadway junction, in the loyalist Village area of south Belfast after 4.30am.

Two males wearing balaclavas and dark clothing opened the front and rear passenger doors and got into the car.

They then held what police said “may have been a gun” to his head.

The car owner ran off and the two masked males subsequently ran to a car, which was then driven off in the direction of Frenchpark Street.

The PSNI said: “We are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident to contact detectives from the reactive and organised crime unit at Musgrave Station on the non-emergency number 101.

“Or, if you would prefer to provide information without giving your details you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
