Horror for woman in 80s when she is awoken by burglar demanding cash - medication and jewellery also stolen

A woman in her 80s has awoken to find a burglar in her bedroom.

The incident happened in the early hours of this morning in her Lawnmount Street home.

An 18 year old man has been arrested following the burglary at the home.

In a statement the PSNI said the elderly woman “was awoken by the male in her bedroom at around 5am” demanding money.

When the lady refused to pay the man left, according to the PSNI.

However it was subsequently discovered that cash, medication and jewellery had been taken.

Responding officers located a suspect a short distance away and he remains in custody at present.
