Irwin welcomes recovery of stolen tractor

Newry & Armagh DUP Assemblyman William Irwin MLA has welcomed the recovery of a stolen tractor that had sentimental value to the owner.

Mr Irwin MLA was contacted by local police on Thursday to state that the tractor had been recovered on the Concession Road area of South Armagh.

Welcoming the recovery Mr Irwin stated: “This is very welcome news especially for the owner given the fact the tractor belonged to the late son of the family and had very strong sentimental meaning.

“There was a very immediate and widespread response on the theft across social media which no doubt assisted in the recovery of the tractor by the PSNI and that is one very positive element of social media and the value of getting the word out for people to be vigilant.”

He concluded: “The PSNI, as well as deploying their own resources, do rely on the public to quickly report a crime such as theft and also they rely on public vigilance. It is good to see that public vigilance played a significant part in this recovery and thankfully the tractor can be handed back, especially in the light of the circumstances and what this tractor means to the family.

“Rural crime continues to be a concern in many areas of my constituency and I will continue to maintain close links with the PSNI on these matters and relay the views of local people.”
