Police have confirmed that the object found under a soldier’s car in Portadown on Friday was “categorically” not explosives of any kind.

Following a security alert around the vehicle on the Crobracky Road,it was discovered to be a harmless item accidently left attached to the car following a recent service.

A number of residents were evacuated from their homes while army bomb experts carried out a controlled explosion on the suspicious object .

PSNI superintendent Simon Walls said: “Once examined, it was determined that the object was in fact an innocuous item that had been accidentally left attached to the underside of the vehicle following a recent service.”
